8 Ball League Rules
GAME: Call Pocket 8 Ball.
RACK: 8 ball in center, stripped ball in one corner, and solid ball in the other corner with the rest randomly placed and not grouped. Person breaking has the right to rack his own balls.
LEGAL BREAK: Any ball is contacted with 4 numbered balls hitting a rail or a ball gets pocketed. Shooter will continue to break until a legal break is made. The 8 ball on the break does not win the game. The 8 ball will be re-spotted and the shooter retains turn. Scratch on break, loses turn and next player has cue ball in hand in the “kitchen- (behind the head line)” on the table. All subsequent fouls will result in “ball in hand” anywhere on the table.
OPEN TABLE: If a ball is made on the break, the table is open. The shooter must make a called pocket shot to continue. Any combination shot is legal providing that the 8 ball is not the first ball contacted.
CUE BALL IN HAND: The shooter must contact anyone of his balls driving any ball to the rail, or the incoming player gets ball in hand anywhere on the table.
FOULS: No fouls on cue ball or any other ball if inadvertently moved. Replace balls to original position and continue play. A foul will be called when striking the cue ball while it is moving.
COIN FLIP: Use a coin flip to determine break or to settle any disputes. DO NOT flip coin onto the table.
BALLS OFF TABLE: Any object ball, 8 ball included, knocked off the table is a foul. The ball gets re-spotted and the shooter loses turn. Cue ball off the table is a foul, the shooter loses turn and the opponent gets ball in hand.
SCRATCH: On the eight ball or pocketed in the wrong pocket, loses game.
SPORTSMANSHIP: Billiards is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to call fouls on himself for breaking any of the above rules. These fouls may also be called by any observer.
DISPUTES: All disputes that arise during the play of the game will be resolved with a coin toss.
3 Foul Rule: If a player fouls three times without making an intervening legal shot, or plays 3 consecutive safeties to the same rail, it is loss of game. The opponent or any spectator must warn a shooter who is on two fouls when he comes to the table that he is on two fouls. Otherwise a possible third foul will be considered to be only the second.
